Tiverton Greenway Chapel

St Peter’s Church in Tiverton is a very large Grade 1 Listed Parish Church built mainly from red sandstone in the 15th Century. The highly intricate Greenway Chapel was added in 1517 and built from Beer Stone. Many decorative carvings of exotic creatures and sea voyages are displayed. Over the last 500 years it has suffered greatly, mainly due to the softness of the stone.

The exterior works at Greenway Chapel consisted of careful cleaning using a combination of ThermaTech and hand tools, extensive mortar repairs using mature lime putty, removal of cement, replacement masonry, pinning pinnacles, repointing and shelter-coating. The interior works consisted of repointing and decorative ceiling repairs, cleaning, paint-stripping and lime-washing.
