This work involved the removal of plant material, repointing, rebedding and weather protection to areas of the flint and rubble walls to slow their deterioration and protect the wall heads, exposed faces and cores. Areas of the Ashlar stone dressings were also in need of consolidation.

Some features of the ruin required complete dismantling with careful recording to ensure the accuracy of their rebuild (with steel pins to stabilise) could be achieved. Sections of stone had also been removed due to archaeological clearance; these areas required rebuilding with stone from the site to ensure that walls were fully supported and not in danger of collapse.
